Oat Milk Packaging
Project
Create a design for an oat milk brand that reads as natural, organic, and familiar.
Tools

Sketches
For my sketches, I wanted to work with the end goal in mind of making a product that people feel familiar with but also isn't boring. I took not of the color palettes of popular brands and common motifs shared between them.
While researching existing oat milk brands, these 4 stuck out to me for their color palettes, font choices, and farm-life motifs.

The popular sky-blue hue used is pleasing to eye in large quantities, and accents of white and cream reminds shoppers of milk and grains. Nondescript wheat-like plants are a popular motif, adding to the sense of an organic and sustainable product. The font of Oatly and Forager resembles traditional handwriting and typewriting, giving the products an artisanal feeling.

I preferred the rectangular packaging of the Chobani and Oatly over Forager and Califia because the bottle-shape, while comforting, made me feel like I was getting less product for my money.

All four brands made sure to include dietary information for consumers, stressing that the product was free from gluten, dairy, and nuts.

Visual Identity
Used the sky blues commonly found in other brands, along with white and cream. I wanted to inverse the ratio of each the usual color palette, making cream the main hue with accents of blue.
puente bold - cozy, round edges are friendly.
roboto slab - pairs well with the puente and inspired by oatly's font.
Initial Design
Things I liked:
- the hills
-the wheat motif
-the font for the titles
-blue colors

Things I'm not happy with:
- cream color is too dark; looks depressing
- too much empty space
- clouds look awkward
- dietary information isn't immediately seen from shelf
- body text font doesn't fit
Final Design
Working off of my last version, I changed the following:

- added a bike and wheat stalks to liven up the design
- moved the dietary information to the front so it can be quickly accessed
- changed body text to a slab font
- lightened the cream background
- removed the clouds to make room for a fake company name, "A&W"
- added hills to the other side of the carton for a more cohesive look
